Dale Alpert (Bowen): After graduation I went to Stanford on a scholarship and immediately lost it. I was having way too much fun. So I came home, went to USD and San Diego State, was a stewardess for United, came back to SDSU, stewardess for PSA (in the fun days) http://www.psa-history.org/articles/hist.html, got married, adopted Kelly and Michael, went back to school at UCSD in Biology and graduated (premed), got a divorce, sold real estate, built 3 stores, closed them, and went back into real estate in 1986 and have been specializing in luxury condominium sales downtown and La Jolla. And will probably work for many more years. I have been fortunate enough to take many wonderful active vacations - my favorite of which was a biking, hiking and walking trip in Morocco. I have been biking and hiking in New Zealand, walking in Tuscany and Sicily (my other favorite) and to London and Paris for my 60th birthday with friends. And most important my whole family lives here – children, father, brother and his family and most of all my precious granddaughter, Aidyn, 2 1/2 years old. And many, very close friends. Life is good!

Bill Bacon: After graduating from Redlands, except for several unremarkable years in the US Army, I've spent the better part of 40 years working in the travel
industry mostly with airlines and cruise lines. Career opportunities have
taken me consistently back and forth from east coast to west coast. Pennsylvania has been home for the past 18 years, however, I still consider myself a Californian through and through. My wife, Kathy, and I have raised two great daughters who live close by and we now have a terrific 5 yr old grandson who we try to spoil as much as his parents let us. I try to play golf as often as I can (whenever I can find someone brave enough to join me) and sailing has been a lifelong passion. I sure wish I could be with you for the reunion. It would be a hoot to see
everyone again!

Two years later I moved down to the San Diego area and started teaching in the La Mesa Spring Valley School District where I taught in the primary grades for 15 years. After receiving my masters degree in 1981 I became a Reading Specialist. In 1999 I retired and have enjoyed traveling. Some of the more interesting places I have visited are Antarctica, the Galapagos Islands, New Zealand and Australia, the Amazon, Machu Picchu, China, Russia, Turkey and Europe. Chris is 40!! and in September will marry his true love, Maria...Walt and I have been married for 28 years and have retired to Lake San Marcos where we have a home on the 15th green. I have been too busy to pick up the game, but Walt golfs a couple of days each week...I foster kittens for two cat rescue groups. Since I have been warned that I will not have grand children, kittens are a nice substitute. I also belong to the Feral Cat Coalition; a group that works to control the feral colonies in San Diego County by offering free spay/neuters at our monthly clinics. I am an avid clogger (Irish dance to Country Western music) and have just returned from a cruise to the Mexican Riviera with 50 fellow cloggers. Laurie Ferguson (Sanders): Left my heart in Coronado in December '57 after attending CHS long enough to warm a chair in Nottingham's office, but not long enough to graduate. The gig was brief, but memorable. Chose work over college, my last career being that of a travel professional. Bounced around between Hawaii, California, Connecticut, Canada and Pennsylvania. Currently residing in Palm Coast, FL, with frequent trips to Coronado and as much international travel as the checkbook will allow. My life has been enriched by two sons, four grandchildren, my brother and his family, a collection of canines, lifelong friends and my darlin' Paul. And we are."

Jim Fuller: After June 58 off to Navy with Mustin, Roy Newton & Bayless.
Four years living with Bayless was a singular experience, not unlike "One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest." After Navy, Flight School and flew out of Alameda, CA for four years, three tours to Wespac and Tonkin Gulf Yacht Club. One year instructing at Corpus Christi...Enough Navy. Went to Pan American, was furloughed, Northwest, was furloughed, flew with Eastern Airlines till it went Bankrupt. (Do you
see a trend here?) After three years one winter in Minneapolis, (Northwest Airlines) I found Florida and have been here since 1970, off and on. Went to University of Miami School of Law (Did you notice the number of lawyers in this class??? Is this another disturbing trend??). I've been practicing law, off and on since 1977 or so, and still have to plod along faking a reasonable semblance of a litigator...I got very lucky and on the second try married, Betty Jim Sadler, a girl I dated in Junior High School and College from Virginia Beach, VA. We have four kids (2 each) and 5 grandchildren and live in Lake Mary, FL; north of Orlando. I've always been happy to have graduated from Coronado High, or Norte Tiajuana High as I've had to explain to those who dont know where it is. We are coming out for the reunion and hope to see as many folks as possible. I keep hearing that old song..... I left my Hair in Coronado... Best Wishes, Jim a/k/a "J.D." Fuller

Sandy Hess: I lived in Coronado several times during the fifties. Fortunately the last time was our junior and senior years. After attending college for two years, and changing my major three times I decided to take a break and joined the Navy. After getting excellent computer programming skills in the Navy I joined the Copley Newspaper Corporate computer staff for a 39 year career. I have been married twice, have six wonderful children and seven grandchildren. It took sometime, but all the children are finally located on the West Coast. Traveling in Baja California, and racing off-road vehicles accross Baja and Nevada for many years was a big high-light, but having family close is the most important thing to me.

Mike Heyn:After studies at Stanford, I joined the Peace Corps, worked with villagers to raise and sell chickens in the high mountains of Peru. Following further graduate studies at the London School of Economics, I joined the UN Development Programme in New York, supporting ‘rural development’ in many countries. I later took up a UN assignment in India, a life-changing experience in innumerable ways. I served as Consultant to the Chancellor at UC Medical Center in San Francisco before returning to the UN Population Fund in Fiji, Nepal and Kenya. I served as the UN Representative in Liberia, Malawi, Thailand/ Asia Region, and Kosovo, where I witnessed the devastating impact and recovery from war. I spent 5 years in Bangladesh managing a UN ‘post conflict’ peace building program among hill tribal peoples. I am now retired in Oregon, married to a UN colleague (Suvira Chaturvedi from India), enjoying 3 terrific daughters, immersed in US politics, treks in the mountains, and occasional UN missions (Sudan and Kenya). I truly believe none of this would have happened without my roots in Coronado and CHS where I learned the ultimate importance of human relations.

Jan MacGregor: You were captain of a nuclear submarine. You were a lawyer for a fancy-shmancy corporate law firm. you are the father of three wonderful children who are scattered all over the world doing completely different and amazing things, including a daughter who lives in Coronado, somehow finding her way back there. You have four grandchildren, two of whom have British accents. You hold an annual opera party that is a highpoint of your year. You sing in opera choruses and other groups and run the Connecticut Early Music Festival. You built an amazing Japanese-style house with your wife. You love singing, music generally, fishing, running, tennis, skiing, Naples (Italy), your Boston Whaler, garlic and butter. God is the center of your life.
72
Jerry Madden (Miller): I'm preparing to leave the little Missouri town I've lived in for 8 years. I was caretaking two separate country homes 6 yrs before buying a 100 yr old house that needed TLC in town to lovingly renovate and extensively landscape. It's now on the market and I'm off on another adventure. Since coming back to MO 14 yrs ago (from Santa Cruz where I lived for 10 yrs) I've been seriously involved with the U. of MO Master Gardener program, environmental groups, birdwatching, on the board at a non-profit group that administers grant funding, nature book group, political actions and maintaining some much-loved artwork and calligraphy in my studio. I have 6 grandchildren that are the dearest hearts and live too far away. When the house sells I'll find a city again and be "connected" to all the things I've come to miss. I'll reduce my gardening radically instead of expanding my two lots (ha) and simplify, simplify. My Coronado days are always in my heart...

Bill David Martin: I attended CHS my last year of high school (my 17th school). I was on my way to Canoe U. with Bayless, et al, but had knee surgery instead and watched Tobin at USC while getting a B. of Architecture. Five years in CEC including Company Commander with MCB 58 in Da Nang in '66-'67. Developed a model CIvic Action program to provide housing for Vietnamese refugees. Left the Navy for MIT, got two Masters Degrees, worked for SOM the next 7 years in Boston, DC and NYC as senior urban designer on Boston's Big Dig and a new city and international airport in Saudi Arabia. Left the corporate world in NYC in search of myself, "real" life and roots and discovered all three in Monterey where I've been designing "spaces that nurture and inspire," mostly small hotels, churches and homes, for the last 31 years with no plans to retire. I have two amazing kids with my former wife, Charlene: Jonathan, 27, and Mariesa, 23. My wife, Annee, the love of my life, has had careers as a therapist, chef/innkeeper, interior designer and real estate investor. I live a very blessed life, wealthy on the inside and with family, friends and community.

Don Meek: After graduation from CHS I attended San Diego State for a semester and decided it was not my time to be in college. I joined the Air Force in 1959 and spent the next 4 years in TX, CO, Merced CA, and Northern MI. The best thing about being in MI was I met my wife Mary Elin. After the service I was in Torrance CA and decided to go back to college. I graduated from Cal State Long Beach in 1968 with a B.S. in Marketing. The B.S. portion was great for me as I went into sales for the balance of my career. Specifically, I sold flexible packaging materials for several major corporations. You name it and I have probably packaged it. For the last 13 years I have been in business for myself here in Plantation, FL. Mary Elin & I celebrated our 44th anniversary this year. We have one son, Brian, married with 2 grandkids in Redmond, WA. Once the housing market improves we plan on moving to the Seattle, WA area to be closer to the grandkids. We are spending July to Oct. out there this year. Life is good.

John Miller: Living in Boise, ID retired from business in sales and chasing women. Married Jerre Madden in 1960. Never knew each other in the Class of ’58, but met at a post-graduation pool party. We had 3 children; Kevin, David and Margaret and now have 6 grandchildren. I am big on gardening but bigger on golf. Playing golf for over 40 years and have maintained 8-13 handicap for the past 20 years. Not much play this year (injuries, cold weather) but held a 10.6 handicap last year---if I could putt it would be better. Favorite Teacher: Bill Davis, History. When I first came to Coronado High from Hawaii, I was getting an F in World History. After one semester with Mr. Davis, I was making an A. That's a good teacher! Most vivid H.S. memory: Baseball Team!
81
Jerry Murphy: I went to work right after H.S. for G.D. Astronautics, and worked there off & on between College for 5 years.. I then went to work for the U.C. San Diego, in the Campus computer center. After about 25 years, I left U.C., and worked teaching Golf for 8 years. I then worked for First Am. Title Co., for 7 years, and Retired in 05. I'm married to a wonderful lady named Jeannie, and we travel around in our RV with our dog Mickey. We live in the old gold mine town of Folsom CA, about 20 miles east of Sacramento, along the American River. I have 2 children by a previous marriage.. a daughter Maria, a son Tim, and a grand daughter Melody. Life is good.

Tom Mustin: Went to the Naval Academy upon graduation (along with Jim Fuller, Roy Newton and Tom Bayless) and we all graduated in 1962. I spent eleven years as a naval officer before resigning to attend Harvard Law School. Upon graduating from law school I joined Latham & Watkins in LA, where I became a litigating partner. On January 1, 1994 I married Jean Root, whom I had known since 1975, and immediately became the stepfather of four, including three grown daughters and 9-year-old Andy. In the summer of that year we moved to Coronado, moved into a house I had purchased a while earlier, and I gradually phased out the practice of law. We’ve been fully retired since 1996. Andy has graduated from CHS and CU at Boulder, and the three girls are all married, each with two kids, including a pair of eleven-month old twins in LA.

He returned to San Diego and graduated from San Diego State with a degree in Accounting. He attended OCS, commissioned Lieutenant, served in Vietnam. Doug settled in North California, working several years in the corporate world. He & Irene lived on Maui for 12 years and then settled in La Honda, in the redwoods in the Santa Cruz Mountains. He established his own Tax and Accounting company in 1980. He was known to have a wonderful garden of vegetables and outstanding tomatoes. Other lifelong interests of Doug¹s were; playing the guitar and banjo, traveling with Irene, body surfing (especially in Hawaii!) and returning often to Coronado for the July 4th events and to visit dear friends and family... Contributed by Irene Hassel -- His love over 25 years.

Roy Newton: After graduation, went to the Naval Academy for four years. Served in nuclear submarines and Engineering Duty assignments involved with all types of nuclear ships. Met my bride to be at a CHS dance at the Hotel Del while home at Christmas '58 and Glenda Tolleson (CHS'59) and I were married in December '63. We have been lucky to have three great sons. After 20 years in the Navy, I 'retired' and started a second career with Brown & Root (21) years in civil engineering consulting on local, national and international projects and then a short time (3 years) with a small local firm. I now work with Glenda helping with her residential real estate sales and we have a great life with all the friends we have made in Texas. The boys have all done well and we have 10 neat grandchildren.

Jerry Parker: In the ’60s I traveled a lot in Mexico, and the Caribbean, worked fire control for the US Forest Service on the Cleveland N.F. and Tahoe. I graduated from San Diego State in biology, married Salty and moved to Humboldt County. I completed a MA in biology with my thesis on sand dune ecology and a second MA in educational leadership. We had a boy and a girl. After teaching for 19 years in public schools, and playing a lot of adult soccer, we went overseas to teach. I remarried (Lucinda) gaining two step-sons, and we worked for the next 13 years in international schools in the Middle East, South Asia, South America, and Central America, and were able to travel. On a lake in Eastern Washington I have build two homes on wooded acreage. I thank Mr. Bunker for the start in woodworking. We have four grandchildren, all boys, three of which are triplets. Today we are relocating to Desert Aire in central Washington, and starting a third house. Sorry I will not be able to make it to Coronado this June.

Ed Patterson:
After graduating from CHS, I went to SDSU for 2 years before running out of money. I then went to work for Astronautics as a missile inspector where I worked on John Glenn's ride. Then I went back to school for a while before deciding to take a couple of years off for travel. Bruce Crawford and I went to Australia. We worked and traveled the east coast of Australia from Tasmania to Darwin. We dove on the Great Barrier Reef, worked on the railroad and in the canneries. It was a terrific experience. We even ran into Jack Purdum in Hong Kong on the way back to the states. I completed school at SDSU, graduating with a teaching credential. I taught for 30 years before retiring. I married my wonderful wife Susy and we have one son Sean. He and his wife Serena are expecting their first child in July. These days I enjoy hunting, fishing, Jack Daniels and spending time with family and friends.

We lived in New Jersey for three years, during which time I learned the roofing trade. In 1970 we returned to California, started a family, a roofing business and built custom homes. We have two lovely daughters, two great son-in-laws, and four young grandchildren who keep us on our toes. I currently own one of San Diego's premier roofing companies, R.C. Spent most of my working life in the hospitality business building, owning, and managing or teaching management in the aforementioned field. I am from a Navy family. We moved to Rhode Island, MA and VA. My family returned to Coronado for my Junior year of high school in 1957. I have had an affair with Coronado my whole life and am grateful to have lived here and met so many nice people. Having lived all over the world and experienced so many cultures and people you know why Coronado is referred to as fantasy Island.

Don Rodee: Major in surfing and a minor in volleyball at USD; off to Pensacola in 1961. Became a SPAD driver in the AD-7 Skyraider... Two tours on the Ticonderoga and Oriskany out of North Island to the Far East was enough Navy for me. Lucky connections got me a job at American Airlines where I flew 6 Boeing models, 3 Douglas models and the most fun... the L188 Electra. After 34 years and number 12 on the seniority list of 13,500 pilots—I flew the Japan, Europe and South America routes. I was a chief pilot, flight instructor and FAA inspector. My oddest job was flying Shamo the whale to Orlando with 23 veterinarians who stood up for take-off and landing to hold Shamo in his special bathtub. I made it to Fallbrook where I have been growing Avocados for 32 years. Returned to Boeing to instruct on the B777 and to check pilots as a CAA inspector. After 4 years I was ready for the ultra-slow life. Most of the year I am on my 165 acre avocado grove on the Bay of Tauranga, New Zealand. One daughter an IBMer in Boulder, CO. and wife Cherie from Incheon, KR, keep me on the run and hound me to loose weight.

Sara Romberg (Worthington): I graduated in 1962 from San Diego State with a degree in Fine Arts. Then I became an art teacher for National City Jr High, then Sweetwater High. During that time I became engaged to Jim Worthington, CHS '56, an impressive Naval officer!! Soon we were married in Coronado. In the ensuing years we lived in Coronado, San Juan Capistrano, Sunset Cliffs, Alexandria, VA, (twice), Coronado again, Portland, OR, Coronado again, and then on to Worthington, OH where we've been for 25 years.
I continued, off and on, for 25 years to teach various grade levels and subjects, but am now retired. My continuing Interest in painting keeps me very busy. One son, his wife and two little boys live an hour from us, and the other son, his wife and two daugthers live in Boca Raton, Fla. We enjoy visiting Coronado and our second home at Black Butte Ranch, OR I feel such gratitude to my beloved family and friends. I am truly blessed.

Dusty Rose (Deceased): Dusty graduated from Parsons College and married his college love, Gail Petty in 1963. He attended California Western Law School and passed the bar in 1966. Dusty practiced law with his Dad and Frank Rockwell at Rose, Rockwell & Rose on Isabella Ave in Coronado. He had two children, Dustin Bicknell, Jr. and Mary Marcielle (Marci) who continue to own property in Coronado. Dusty was very active in Rotary and was the representative for Active 20-30 at the International Level. He founded and was a member of the Board of Directors for the first local bank, the Bank of Coronado. He died on April 12, 1989 at 49 years old after two bypass surgeries.

Laura Rose: Living in Coronado since 1943 makes me a true native! Along the way past high school, I used up my allotted career choices. I graduated from the University of Arizona in Immunology, graduated from the MT program and worked as a Medical Technologist at Sharp Hospital, received my Blood Bank Specialist Certification from Irwin Memorial Blood Bank in SF, opened the Medical Laboratory at Children's Hospital San Diego, received my Masters from University of Redlands, became a Paralegal at the University of San Diego, supervised the Toxicology Department at Nichols Laboratories and then became a professional City of Coronado volunteer. I am truly blessed to have reconnected with the love of my life and very first boyfriend (remember those rings around our necks!), Robin Crenshaw in 2001. To make it extra perfect, my life remains in Coronado. My two daughters are my special friends and my two grandsons my inspiration…and lucky me, I can see them every weekend. Life is good!

Jon Sanford: After completing CHS, I attended SDSU and graduated with a BA and MA in education. In 2005 I retired from 33 years of teaching 6th grade in the Chula Vista Elementary School District. In 1968 I married my wonderful wife Mary Ann and we started our beautiful family of five children (3 girls, 2 boys), in Coronado. Presently, I still teach GATE students once a week at my old school, travel and RV whenever we can and enjoy our kids and grandchildren who are still all local. I do a lot a volunteer work with The SD Burn Institute and Mag 7 Racing Team, which supports racers in the Baja Racing series. I'm looking forward to the reunion and seeing old friends and reminisce about old times.
107
Sue Schade (Ward): I married Sam (Chiefie) Ward 48 years ago just after he graduated from USNA. We spent 26 years in the Navy, mostly stationed on the east coast. I worked at various jobs usually part-time while raising 4 kids and doing the Navy wife thing. After Sam retired from the Navy we moved to Baltimore for 8 years, the longest I’d lived anywhere in my life at that point. There I had time to go back to school for a nursing degree and worked as a home health RN. I also co-wrote a book on discernment called Listening Hearts. We returned to Coronado in 1996 thinking we’d retire here. Then we realized Sam still needed to be working if we expected to be able to buy a house and not have the banks laugh at us. He still does some work for SAIC. I stopped nursing to settle into Coronado and never returned to work. I’m still involved in the Listening Hearts Ministry; work at the Christ Church Thrift Shop; read, take classes and travel for fun and to visit scattered family. We have 4 grown married offspring and 14 grandchildren, the oldest graduates from UCSD June 21 and the youngest enters kindergarten in the fall. Life is good.

Sally Sears (Burgess): After grad, family moved up to Saratoga CA. Graduated Mills College, Oakland, CA, as did both younger Sears gals... all three of us K-8 teaching credentials as well. Sad note: Sister Sudie passed away quite suddenly in S.F., age 55, due to complications of pneumonia. Married at age 19 (!), ended in divorce in 1972. Still single, but kept married surname. Husband was drafted after dental school. He was in the Air Force in Japan; one year southern and one year outside Tokyo. I had a fun job at MNHK-TV... nice break from the classroom. Loved Japan, then 4 month driving trip through Europe & Middle East (Beirut before bombs... lovely city). Retired since 2000. Two years ago a quite unexpected stroke interrupted my life. John Muir Hospital in Walnut Creek saved my life. After a 2-1/2 week "vacation" there, the cause was determined to be an hereditary clotting disorder... methylene tetra hydro folate reductase (a mutant gene).

Pat Sherman (Friend): We recently returned to Missouri from a month's visit with my parents in Coronado to find a most welcome invitation to return to Coronado for the 50th reunion events! Unfortunately we've already purchased airline tickets for one of our twice a year visits to our second home in Costa Rica. Wish we could attend: I'd love to see all of you. We've had an exciting life: 8 children, 43 grandkids, and 2 great grandsons. We've lived on a small family farm and taught our children how to survive on what we've raised, grown, hunted, fished or found. After the kids were grown we opted to live in a converted pole barn w/o electricity, running water or indoor plumbing for ten years... and LOVED it! For 16 years we were surrogate parents to around 500 boys at Boys and Girls Town of MO; we've driven teams of mules on 16 wagon trains (thousands of miles for Michael - hundreds for me), and we've traveled the world. Our 5 sons are a teacher, a computer science Phd, a CPA and minister, an Microsoft executive, a bank officer in computer systems security, and the 3 girls are great moms. We've discovered we're busier in retirement than we thought we'd be... maybe our priorities have changed ?? We both paint- Michael in watercolors and I in oils. I don't think my degree in psychology was as worth as much as life's experiences! My best to all!

Joan Stephan (Cathcart): Went to the University of FL, joined ZTA, left after two years. Went to Virginia and worked at the pentagon. Being out on my own was not so great. Went back to UF and settled down. Got a BS in nursing. Worked Pediatrics. I met the love of my life (for 44 Years), Ned, the Chief Resident of OB-GYN. We married and moved to Spartanburg, SC. He started a medical practice, I raised our 4 children. Joined the Junior League and did volunteer work. In 1977 two friends established the SC ETV Endowment where I worked for 27 years. I also went back to nursing in the well baby nursery, NICU, and the maternal and child unit. Ned and I also traveled all over the world. Ned is now retired. Our daughter and her husband live across the street from us. My youngest son is in a "special school" in Frankfort, KY. We have 4 grandchildren. I have truly been blessed. Wish I could be with you for this reunion.

Kathy Stevens (Clark): My dad¹s first Coronado tour of duty with the Navy was in June, 1952. After attending 7th and 8th grades here, I thought my heart would break when Dad announced we were heading back to the East Coast. There I attended Oxon Hill High School and Quantico Post High School. Then came the blessed news that we would be coming back to Coronado for my senior year! It was so wonderful to come back and reconnect with so many of my old friends from 8th grade. After graduating from CHS I attended SDSU and joined Kappa Alpha Theta, making many new friends with whom I am still very close. I graduated in 1962 and began teaching at our old junior high (now Coronado Middle School) in 1963. My husband Ron Clark, former Marine Korean War vet, was an English teacher at the high school at the time, which is how we met. I taught American History and English for 38 years and retired in 2001. Now I volunteer for our church, the Armed Services YMCA and the middle school library, so I am busier than ever, but receive no pay check! Ron and I have been married 42 years and have 3 children and 8 grandchildren. We did a lot of SCUBA diving and snow skiing as well as running, back when our bodies would permit such activity! Over the years we have been fortunate enough to travel to Europe, Great Britain, Africa, Hawaii, the Caribbean and Canada, but now we are happy to stay at home where I can work on my scrapbooks and we can watch old black and white movies.

Hal Tobin: USC in 1959 on a football scholarship, finished in 1962 with a degree in Business Administration. Finishing in 4 yrs was more important to me than playing on the USC 1962 national football championship team. My college love, Carolyn and I have been married for 44 yrs. Two sons...two grandsons, 3 & 6... Aerospace industry 1962-1971. Started real estate development company in 1972 at age 32. Retired in 1977 and stayed that way until 1986, again getting restless. 1986-1995 started another real estate development company, building over 1,800 homes in Southern California and Las Vegas. I took a setback when the 1990-1996 CA real estate depression put me in a financial hole in 1995. I finally dug out in 5 yrs. In 2000 I started another business helping homeowners in foreclosure save their homes. I developed a rescue loan program in 2003 to help desparate homeowners. We paid their mortgage payments for one full year until they got back up on their feet. In 2007 the sub-prime mortgage melt down began putting an end to our rescue loan business. I am now working with banks to help them sell all their foreclosed homes. Life certainly has its ups and downs, but things are looking up. Life has been a journey and I am thankful for everything I have been given, good and bad.

Dick Townsend: After CHS, five of us (Brad Holcombe, Dennis McCall, Jim Corley, Bill Bacon, and me) entered the University of Redlands. Graduate school was next, leading to a Ph.D. in medical psychology from Duke University. The Naval Health Research Center in San Diego occupied the next 8 years, with very interesting research projects involving USN special environments, including the Deep Submergence Systems Project, SEAL teams, and submarine crews. A shift to private practice occurred in the 1980's, where I continue to work part-time, with offices in Coronado and National City, doing inpatient and outpatient treatment, and evaluation of patients in clinical medication trials. While work is enjoyable, the "best of times" are found with Annetta on our C-400 sailboat, cruising between Ensenada and the northern Channel Islands, with Cherry Cove on Catalina Island being our favorite hide-out. Ham radio emergency services and time with our kids takes care of any uncommitted time.

Karen Wanless (Rand): We departed Coronado shortly after graduation, bound for Wash, DC where my father had recently been assigned. The following Sept. I enrolled at the U. of Illinois, from which I received a BS in Psychology. Soon after graduation I began working the "Friendly Skies" of United Airlines. (I even crossed paths with Deanna Brue once or twice.) In 1964 I met Joe Rand, a law student at Northwestern U. We were married in 1965. Three children quickly ensued in 1967,1969 and 1970... and again in 1978! (No grandchildren yet; we're not old enough!) Through the years, I've immersed myself in church, school and civic volunteer responsibilities. Presently, I work part time with a group of fun, creative women at a local monogram shop. I also volunteer my time as an advocate in Domestic Violence Court; and work with an organization bringing art appreciation to disadvantaged elementary school children. As the years go by I appreciate more and more the carefree moment in time that was our high school experience in idyllic Coronado. It's always such a pleasure to return for these reunions. Here's to the next 50!

He worked for Paramount Pictures, 20th Century Fox Film and several other companies before joining a long time friend as Vice President/ Partner of Sucaba Company, Inc. At Fox Film, he met Mary who later became his wife. They loved to travel and visited many countries before he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in May, 2005. Earl was a very generous person whose favorite charities were for children. He supported a foster son in Senegal and donated generously to Smile Train who surgically corrects cleft lips for children and to Feed the Children. He will be forever missed by many but especially by his soul-mate and best friend, Mary.

For the last 25 years I have been involved in carriage driving (that’s with horses), and am Secretary of the American Driving Society, a Licensed Judge, and the owner of one horse, two carriages, a sleigh, three harnesses and enough horse paraphernalia to stock a tack shop. My husband, Alex, is a saint for putting up with me, for which I am eternally grateful. One of these days we will both retire.

Contributed by Connie Warlick..."I noticed you didn't have any information on Bruce Yates -- I didn't know him very well, but during a trip to DC I went to 'The Wall' and found his name. Today, I was thinking about that and copied the attached piece from the online site; maybe you would like to add it. I have a great memory of a class field trip to the snow and Bruce loaned me his military cold weather jacket -- Sweet guy!"
